Cops for Kids
As an outreach to our community the Albuquerque Police Department is proud to sponsor over 100 under privileged children each year to participate in this one day event.
Children who are selected are referred by Title 1 (homeless project.) APD Detective Rosemary Gallegos then screens every applicant and carefully selects the Participants.
The event consist of each child being paired up with their very own personal Law Enforcement Officer for the day.
During this event the child will be picked up at their home and taken to a full breakfast provided by Furr’s. After breakfast a lights and siren caravan will take place and head for Wal-Mart where they are greeted by Santa and his elves. Each child will be given a $100.00 gift card to purchase clothes, shoes and a toy.
Every child receives a back pack (provided by BCSO) filled with needed items such as toiletries.
Each family is given a turkey and all the fixings for a Christmas dinner. The child will then be caravanned to IT’Z for lunch, games & rides. At the end of the day each child is returned home and will have experienced a joyous holiday.
